Common questions about Invisalign®
Invisalign® has transformed the orthodontic industry with its revolutionary technology, but what is it and how does it work? At Dr. Paul J. Styrt, Specialists in Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry, we understand our patients want more information about what they can expect with Invisalign® treatment.
If you have a question we haven’t answered below, just give our friendly team in La Jolla a call and we’d be happy to help you.
The Invisalign® system is the virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth using clear plastic aligners. With Invisalign®, we use 3D technology to depict your complete treatment plan, from the initial position of your teeth to the final desired position. A series of aligners are then custom-made for you, which will shift your teeth little by little into the final position as you move through treatment. Your treatment time is determined by your orthodontist based on your specific needs. For more information, see our Invisalign® page.
Yes, absolutely! When it’s time for a meal, you can take the aligners out. If you have an important occasion, you can remove them. Most importantly, with Invisalign® treatment you don’t have to visit the orthodontist as often, so that means less appointments to fit in to your busy schedule.
No, you can take the aligners out to eat and drink whatever you want. Just remember to clean your teeth thoroughly before putting the aligners back in.
Not unless you tell them. Invisalign® aligners are virtually invisible, so chances are no one will even notice anything is different, until your new smile is revealed, of course.
Yes, at Dr. Paul J. Styrt, Specialists in Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry we are recognised as one of the Top 100 Invisalign® providers in the world. Our team is highly experienced in using this treatment and getting great results. We are also a member of The Invisible Orthodontist network, which promotes the use of Invisalign®.
Absolutely, and it’s very important you do so. For the best treatment results, you need to keep up with your oral hygiene routine. When you have a meal or a snack, just remove your Invisalign® aligners to eat and brush and floss your teeth thoroughly before putting them back in.
For the very best results, it is recommended you wear your Invisalign® for 22 hours per day. It’s fine to occasionally remove your aligners and enjoy a special night out, but try to wear them as much as possible.
One of the great things about Invisalign® is that you don’t have to visit the orthodontist as often as you would if you were wearing traditional metal braces. That’s because the aligners don’t require adjustments. If you’re wearing Invisalign®, you’ll need to have an appointment once every six weeks, but these are quick progress check-ups and you’ll be in and out before you know it.
More than 5,000,000 patients worldwide have been treated with Invisalign®. The number of Invisalign® smiles grows daily. At your next appointment, we can help answer any questions you might have, and get you started on the smile you've always wanted.
