Dr Paul Styrt
DMD, MPH, MS
As a husband and father, I know how important it is to take care of others. I love being an orthodontist because I get the chance to know my patients personally while also ensuring they receive the best care possible.
Orthodontics truly changes lives for the better, and I am grateful to be part of that process for so many wonderful people. Every day, I contribute to the oral health and overall wellbeing of my patients, and I couldn’t ask for anything more rewarding than that!
What is my background?
Before becoming an orthodontist, I received my bachelor's degree in biological sciences from the University of California, San Diego. I then attended the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where I earned my dental degree (DMD). I attained my Masters in Public Health (MPH) from the Harvard School of Public Health. My orthodontic specialty certificate and Masters in Oral Biology were both earned at the UCLA School of Dentistry.
Although my formal education is complete, I never stop learning about dentistry and orthodontics. I take continuing education courses and seminars on a yearly basis to stay abreast of the newest proven techniques and technologies. My highest priorities will always be the health and comfort of my patients, and my continued studies help ensure they will always be offered the most efficient and gentle treatments available today.
What do I do?
I come to work each day and get to make a lasting improvement in people’s lives! I am truly lucky to do what I do, and to serve the people of San Diego.
When I run into former patients around town, I love seeing them smile at me proudly. I want to make sure every patient keeps their beautiful smile for life, and make it a priority to educate each person on proper oral care. When they leave my office, we can both relax knowing their smile will last forever!
I provide the best care possible for my patients, and part of that means having wonderful people on my staff. My entire team is comprised of very talented, experienced and dedicated professionals who care about every one of our patients. We are passionate about what we do, we love making people smile, and we have fun every day.
Who am I?
I grew up in Los Angeles where my grandfather, a dentist who trained under Dr G.V. Black, known as the father of modern dentistry, moved his family from Chicago to Los Angeles in 1937, making me a second-generation Californian.
While in high school I was impressed by what I heard from an orthodontist who spoke at career day about how passionately he loved his career. That stuck with me through college and influenced me to pursue a career in the medical field and ultimately into the field of orthodontics and pediatric dentistry.
Following my training at Harvard, I returned to the west coast to UCLA where I received my specialty residency training. I also met my wife at UCLA and we have been married since 1989 when we relocated to beautiful San Diego! We have two terrific sons and one dog, and a love of San Diego and all it has to offer. I am involved in our local community, local charities and enjoy coaching my sons' sports activities. After many years of competing in triathlons and marathons I still enjoy swimming, cycling and running.
